In the end we spent most of the night re reading the rules, but it was still a good game.
A group of British Para's are wanting to take control of an important crossroads. However a group of German SS are also heading for the same objective.
The Battlefield |
and again from a different angle. |
A section of Paras move off from their jump off point and head down the left flank.
But they are being watched by some Germans.
Another section makes for the crossroads.
While another group are off to the pub.
The middle section eyes up the crossroads and prepares to advance on to the objective.
More Paras move into the buildings to secure the flank.
At this point the Germans appear and
with all those MG's, pour a lot of fire into the Paras. Their loses are severe and they withdraw to the other side of the hedges to recover.
The British mortars send in some smoke to hide their retreat but it doesn't land in the right place. Landing just off to the left allowing another German section to deploy, on the road.
The German section uses the smoke to hide their advance on the Paras left flank.
But it is now getting late so we had to end the game there. All in all a fun game with a lot of the finer points sorted. A re read of the rules over the next day or so also helped to point out where we had been going wrong. Roll on the next game.

Great stuff. This is another set of rules I have but am yet to play. The rules certainly read well and the batreps I read always seem very 'realistic'.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking game Rodger!
ReplyDeleteA great looking game Rodger and one I still need to try!

Cracking game
ReplyDeleteFun stuff.
ReplyDeleteI've thoroughly enjoyed the few games of CoC that I've played. The rules are pretty straight forward and make for a tricky game where making command choices is far more important than other minis games.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking troops and terrain, Rodger!
ReplyDeleteNice looking game Rodger! Is there a special reason for that rather unusual basing style?
ReplyDeleteYes. They had been based for a different set of rules. Possibly Rapid Fire.
DeleteCrackin' looking game Rodger!
ReplyDeleteGame looks very well. SS in CoC is a very tough and hard to win opponent...
ReplyDeleteI find that with CoC (and most other 2FL rule sets) are very difficult to pick up and play The rulebooks, while easy to read, are to tough to play with as first timers and one spend a lot of time flicking between pages. They are well worth the effort though and after a few games you will know where everything is. A great set of rules and more of a WW2 playing experience than a game (like say, Bolt Action)
ReplyDeleteYes, I totally agree Paul. Having re read rules now I can't wait for another go. Even started gluing up some Commandos!
DeleteNice report, I like that basing style and like the look of the 20mm.
ReplyDeleteNice looking set up, have toyed with CoC several times but never got round to buying it in case it became another uleset on the shelf.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice report ROdger, semms to be a great game, these pictures are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGreat report Rodger.
ReplyDeleteNice looking game Rodger!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you have taken the plunge with Chain of Command Roger, a great set of rules.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, bet you had lots of fun!! :) Cheers!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking game Rodger! I'm playing my first game of Chain of Command later on today. Looking forward to it immensely I have heard so many good things about it. I think it sounds like one of those games that gets better and better as the little subtleties in the rules become more obvious.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Jason
Hope you enjoy the game Jason. I look forward to your thoughts.
