Today is the day that Kiwis and Aussies take a moment or two to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for YOU and ME. Make some time today to think of the many men and women who have given their lives for their country.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

ReplyDeleteRodger, I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye when I watched a mate of mine, Tyme Marsters of the NZ Army Band, play the Last Post at Gallipoli today. How fortunate are we not to have had to make such a sacrifice.
ReplyDeleteHi dear friends,
ReplyDeleteLast week I visited the Canakkale and Gallipoli. Will add some photos soon.(in "miniafv.blogspot.com) The Anzacs fought come from far away.
Formed friendships with Turkish soldiers. We respect their graves in Gallipoli. We visit them as well. Friendship is beautiful.
Greetings from Turkey
Erhan
