There is an excellent battle report on Craig's blog
http://craigswargamingblog.blogspot.co.nz/2012/09/borodino-20120-report.html
with another bunch of wonderful photos.
This was a fantastic way to spend a weekend, playing with the wee chaps and meeting a great bunch of guys.
Below are photos from the game showing just how big this game was.
Looking from the French left after the first turn. |
From behind the Russian right. |
A view down the table from the Russian right. |
The French right flank. |
Troops from the French right flank advancing. |

The Commanders at the end of the game. |
An awesome sight to see so many Napoleonic troops on one table.
Thanks to John and co for organising this event.
Chris Packer who was Napoleon over the weekend managed to find time amongst his command responsibilities to shot some video footage of the game. The link below is for the first part of 9!

more to come.
Enjoy.
Crikey, I am surprised the tables could handle that amount of lead Rodger.
ReplyDeleteNice post!
There were a few plastic figs about but mostly lead. The question was asked, if the tables were up to it.Certainly alot of lead!
DeleteWhat an awesome looking game and my favourite battle of the period , but I'm not jealous.......the heck I'm not as I'm positively green with envy!

DeleteNever been part of anything like that before, it was absolutely fantastic- great pictures of the game Rodger.
ReplyDeleteBP handled that many troops and players (around 30 at some points) very, very well.
Craig
Yes, the rules played better than I thought they would. An awesome time.
DeleteThat is impressive. Looks like it was fun.
ReplyDeleteGreat fun Sean.
DeleteMy goodness me, now that is seriously impressive. A grand day out indeed.
ReplyDeleteYes it was, thanks Michael.

ReplyDeleteThanks Jay.
DeleteVery impressive , I was looking forward to seeing the pics of this event. Well done to all!
ReplyDeleteCheers Scott.
DeleteI wasn't there long Rodger - just long enough to get myself (waiting to be fed) into one of your photos, and to like what I saw. Aside from the well presented figures and terrain, and tables rather freer of clutter than you often get, it looked as though the battle was going to end with a clear cut result. Excellent game: lots happening in the two hours or so that I was there, can't ask much more than that!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Ion
Thanks Ion. Actually you are in a few photos, I just haven't gone through all 150 or so photos yet.
DeleteMany thanks for sharing this, that is something to behold. Surely the high point in anyone's wargaming career to play in a game like that,Cheers,
ReplyDeleteMike
Certainly is Mike. If plans go ahead there will be more next year.
DeleteLooks awsome... love the terrain :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Sir.
DeleteThat is a tremendous display and a perfect way to mark the anniversary of the battle. Foundry had a sale to celebrate it, but I think being able to go to this would be much better.
ReplyDeleteThis is well above awesome. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletecheers
Thanks Brendon.
DeleteAn impressive game. Lots of 28mm Napoleonics, what is not to like.
ReplyDeleteCheers Paul.
DeleteThat is one impressive game Roger! Many thanks for posting these awe inspiring photos. I get to do a game that size once a year.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ken. I think everyone at this game is keen to do more next year. A great way to game.
ReplyDeleteWow! Great photos Rodger! I love a big Napoleonic battle!
ReplyDeleteWhat scale did you fight it? We did Wagram in 1:120 this year, because our usual 1:60 scale just wouldn't have fit!
Thanks Rosbif. Sorry not too sure what the scale was in the end. I know there were a lot of troops though!
DeleteGreat photos of an awsome looking game. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteCheers David.
DeleteGreat job - loks likie you had about 50% more figures thabn we had for our version... and that was a heck of a lot! Getting gamres together from throughouit the country for an event like this must have been especially enjoyable. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fantastic time. Loved it. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteThanks Captain. Harper's Weekly is a blog that we are going to have for our Gettysburg refight next year. Just waiting on Gav to stsrt the writing!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat game and beaut report Rodger. Yours was one of three big bicentennial Borodino games that were held that weekend in NZ/Aust. (including our own)! I have put links to them on our 'communal' blog dedicated to the bicentennial Napoleonic years 'Wargaming Waterloo 2015' (http://waterloo2015.blogspot.com.au).
ReplyDeleteEpic battle and stunning photos:)

Excellent battle report! I'll pop back here to read all the Nappy stuff I can find! I need to know who made that pretty Russian church? I want one!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
warpaintjj
I have no idea who made the church or who even supplied it for the game.
