Chain of Command 2 QRS & Vehicle Stat's cards.

Chain of Command is my favourite WW2 rules set. However, I don't get to play it anywhere near as much as I would like and as a result I need a good comprehensive QRS. My friend Geoff recently put together a 6 page Quick Reference that covers different aspects  on different pages. He has put everything you need for Anti-tank firing on one page and AFV and APC damage results on another page. They could be laminated together! All the Close Combat stuff is on one page. Small arms firing is on one page. Movement and The Bad Thing happen chart are on one page.

Geoff has also made charts of vehicle and weapon factors for the Germans, British and Americans.

Each on a separate page.

American stat's

German stat's

British stat's

I hope these are of use to some of you guys. They have certainly reduced the amount of time I spend thumbing through the rule book during a game!

Oosterbeek 1944

The other day the lads got together for a small Chain of Command game. We took the scenario from Wargames Soldiers and Strategy 107.

An SS German force was closing in on the British Paras in Oosterbeek.

The Germans had to get a couple of units off of the other end of the table.
The Paras had dug in along the line of the road.
One German squad worked their way up the left flank firing from cover as they went.
The British sections dug amongst the trees and also had a 6pdr dug in covering the approach road.
Another German squad worked their way through the trees on the right flank.
In front of them was another Para section, dug in and waiting for them.
As it turned out the Germans kept rolling double 6s and recieved three or four turns in a row.
This enabled them to advance a long way with little interference from the British. In the end the Paras alsogot a det of double turns but by then the damage was done.

WW2 British Paras

During this lockdown I have managed to get my British Paras to a useful stage.

Three full sections for CoC, plenty of higher command options plus a Glider (Airfix), a 6pdr anti tank gun, HMG team, PIAT and 2"mortar teams, Medics and a sniper. There is even a radio man as a FOO.
A couple jeeps and trailers in there too.

The carts I have used as JoPs. So also could the 3d printed parachutes.

Still on the painting table is another section and additional 2"mortar and PIAT teams as further support options. I still have a couple of plastic fig's left on the sprue that I might attempt to make into some extra crew figures.

Thanks Gav. I have finally painted these two.

CoC game.

I found the photos for a number of our games that were played in the last year or two still on the camera. This one was played last year I think.

It involved German Paras dropping on British soil to gain control of some supplies ahead of the invasion.

Chain of Command, Early German Paras verses The Home Guard. The scenario was based on an article in one of the TFL magazines.

Been doing a bit of terrain work.

It's been a very long time since my last post but I thought  would try and resurrect things here.

Having been confined to barracks for most the past week I have been able to spend some time on these buildings. Unfortunately they are not mine but I have really enjoyed painting them up.

3D printed buildings seem to be a very good wat to go these days.

I am including some photos of another 3d printed project. This Gear factory was painted last year, I think.

Now that I have a bit more time on my hands I will try and post a bit more.

Warlord Games Kriegsmarine

These guys were a Christmas present that have finally been across the painting table.

Something a bit different for me but I thought the figures looked pretty cool and so I just had to get them.

Just goes to show that you never know what might be wandering down a quiet country road!

Chain of Command trial game.

Our last Friday night game was a trial game of the Chain of Command rules.

In the end we spent most of the night re reading the rules, but it was still a good game.

A group of British Para's  are wanting to take control of an important crossroads. However a group of German SS are also heading for the same objective.
The Battlefield

and again from a different angle.

A section of Paras move off from their jump off point and head down the left flank.
But they are being watched by some Germans.
Another section makes for the crossroads.
While another group are off to the pub.

The middle section eyes up the crossroads and prepares to advance on to the objective.
More Paras move into the buildings to secure the flank.
At this point the Germans appear and
with all those MG's, pour a lot of fire into the Paras. Their loses are severe and they withdraw to the other side of the hedges to recover.
The British mortars send in some smoke to hide their retreat but it doesn't land in the right place. Landing just off to the left allowing another German section to deploy, on the road.
The German section uses the smoke to hide their advance on the Paras left flank.

But it is now getting late so we had to end the game there. All in all a fun game with a lot of the finer points sorted. A re read of the rules over the next day or so also helped to point out where we had been going wrong.  Roll on the next game.

The figures are 20mm from Geoff's collection.
