1st Year and WW2 Tommies.

Today is my blogs" First Year Anniversary" and what a year it has been. I have really enjoyed  the blog and following some  outstanding blogs that are out there. The most striking thing about having a blog , for me, is the feeling of friendship that comes from sharing in a common pursuit. I never thought about this side of blogging and was really surprised how quickly I felt I was getting to know people from all over the world. To all of you who are followers, thank you very much. It is very humbling to know that so many people are interested in what is happening in my wargaming world. A special thanks to everyone who has commented too, I really appreciate your comments and advice.

Back at the start of the year Gav from http://tabletoptactician.blogspot.com/ gave me a sprue of Valiant Miniatures WW2 British "Tommies". I soon realised that even after 40+ years of gaming I had never painted any WW2 Brit's! I have owned plenty of the old Airfix and ESCI figures, just never painted them. Although these figures are labelled as 1:72 scale they are in fact a slightly larger scale than that. Nevertheless, I was pleased with the results and ended up taking another sprue from Gav and all 8 of the  Para heads that came in the box.
So, here are some pic's of my recently painted WW2 Tommies. Thanks Gav.

Some of the command figures.

Thanks again guys for all the support.

  1. Awesome. I couldn't agree more on how much blogging is a positive experience. The community participation is excellent and the knowledge sharing is very cool. The new image at the top looks great and the way you present the Tommies is amazing. The buildings and terrain really make them look cool and inspires better looking tables.
    Keep on posting.
    Cheers

  2. What a nice bunch of blighter's.

I think you should add some Unit flashes and ranks Rodger. I would not see this as a problem for a man of your painting talents!

Bloomin well done, and congratulation on the anniversary.

  4. Congrats on the milestone, Rodger, I'll second your comments about the sense of fellowship gained from blogging on wargaming and figure painting! Plus having a cracking blog with great figures and awesome scenery, as you do, certainly helps!

As one of the more prolific commenters on my blog over the last little while, I say thanks a lot and hope for many more years of blogging from you.

I feel equally about blogging! There are lot's of great people around here :)
Sharing stuff is something great and it just got Gav a new follower!

Your Lads look very nice and I'm looking forward to (hopefully) see some more WWII stuff! It took a second glance to realize that those nice builings are made from paper... That's pretty good stuff! I like the Scenery!

What do you use for those hedges?

    Cheers,

  13. Really nice work, Rodger. Valiant makes nice figures, don't they? Yours are really well painted. I especially like the para conversions.
Where did you get the buildings? They look like they are paper, and none the worse for it.
Congratulations on keeping the blog going and making a year milestone. I find with mine that the contact with other gamers, the encouragement and ideas really keep me going.
    Cheers,

  19. Who do you think you are kiddy Mr Hitler, if you think we're on the run....

Rodger, those figures brought back childhood memories of watching 'Dad's Army' on the tv. Maybe it's the English buildings with the hedges that does it. Using natural day light for your photography added to the sense of realism. Fantastic work, that man!
